Why are you wondering about which health insurance is best when you can access health insurance tax benefit 80D on all plans?
Yes, you can save taxes while paying health insurance premiums, not just for yourself, but also for your children, spouse, and parents. Furthermore, claim up to ₹5,000 for preventive health check-ups for yourself, spouse, parents, or children.
Now imagine you are 32 years old and buy a health insurance policy for yourself, your spouse, and your child. You pay ₹20,000 as the insurance premium each year. You also pay an additional ₹4,000 for annual preventive health check-ups.
In this scenario,
The deduction for your insurance premium is ₹20,000
Moreover, the deduction for preventive health check-ups is ₹4,000.
Both are counted within the ₹25,000 limit for taxpayers and their family.
The total deduction from the health insurance tax benefit under Section 80D is ₹24,000
If your taxable income was ₹9,00,000, after the deduction, your new taxable income will be
= ₹8,00,000 − ₹24,000
= ₹8,76,000.
So, you can calculate your income tax on ₹8,76,000 instead of ₹9,00,000, as you are saving tax ₹24,000 through health insurance tax benefit 80D.

For self, spouse, and children:
= Premium of ₹22,000 + preventive health check-up of ₹3,000
= ₹25,000 (This is within the ₹25,000 limit allowed under Section 80D)
For senior citizen parents: A premium of ₹48,000 (Within the allowance up to ₹50,000).
Since you are paying ₹48,000, you can claim the full amount.
സെക്ഷൻ 80ഡി പ്രകാരമുള്ള മൊത്തം കിഴിവ്:
= ₹25,000 + ₹48,000
= ₹73,000.
If your taxable income is ₹14,00,000, after the ₹73,000 deduction, your new taxable income becomes ₹13,27,000.
Now calculate your income tax on ₹13,27,000 while saving tax of ₹73,000 with health insurance tax benefit 80D.

Whether you are buying an individual policy, looking at health insurance plans for family, or even health insurance for senior citizens, keep in mind that the maximum amount of deduction available will be based on the age of the beneficiary insured and not on the income levels of the taxpayer. Now that it is clear that the tax brackets do not affect the amount of deduction, it is best to seek robust insurance coverage for yourself and your family, considering the growing health complications.
