If you're wondering how to pay road tax online in Assam via Parivahan, the process is now streamlined through the Vahan portal. To do it, follow the steps below for vehicle road tax online payment in Assam:
Step 1: Open a browser on your device and head to the official Parivahan website and choose your state as Assam.
Step 2: Hover over the option ‘Online Services’ and choose ‘Pay Vehicle Tax’.
Step 3: Enter details of your vehicle, such as your vehicle’s registration number, its chassis number, etc.
Step 4: Once you enter those details, the portal will show the outstanding tax dues alongside your vehicle’s details.
Step 5: Make the payment using your debit card, credit card or using net banking. Once your payment is successful, you will get an e-receipt for your payment.
If you prefer submitting your road tax offline, follow these steps:
Step 1: Visit your nearest District Transport Office (DTO) in Assam.
Step 2: Fill out the required documents, such as Form 20, with applicable proofs regarding your vehicle. They include your RC, insurance, your ID proof, your proof of address, and, if applicable, the updated PUC.
Step 3: The designated personnel will calculate your tax and you can pay it using cash or available online modes.
Step 4: Collect the receipt of your tax payment from the office.

Paying road taxes when applicable, as a rule or norm, is mandatory for compliance. Therefore, in case you fail to pay your applicable road tax on time for your vehicle, you are liable to a penalty or a fine. You will be liable for a fine of ₹20 per day for each day of a delayed payment.
