Step 1: Click on ‘Informational Services’ from the main menu.

Step 2: Select ‘Downloadable Forms’ from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Choose ‘All Forms’ to view the complete list of RTO forms.

Step 4: Click on ‘Form 26’ under the vehicle-related category and download the form to fill it out.

How to Fill Form 26 (RTO)?

There are four parts to completing the RTO Form 26:

Part 1: Applicant Details and Reason For Loss

  1. Mention the address of the RTO authority where you will apply for a duplicate Registration Certificate in the upper left-hand corner of the 26 RTO Form.
  2. Then enter your vehicle registration number below the name of the RTO authority.
  3. Now, briefly, describe the circumstances in which RC got damaged or lost. Strike out options not applicable.

Part 2: Police Report, Vehicle Status and Applicant Declaration

  1. Enter the date on which you lodged a police complaint regarding loss or theft of the registration certificate.
  2. Attach a copy of the FIR.
  3. If the old RC is damaged, stained, but still with you, submit it along with this Form 26 application.
  4. Declare whether the vehicle is subject to any lease, hire-purchase or whether it is free of such things.

Part 3: Signature and Submission by Applicant

  1. You need to sign the form and then enter the date of submission.
  2. If you are unable to sign, a thumb impression can be used instead.
  3. The declaration confirms the accuracy of all the information provided in the form.
  4. This completes the owner's portion of RTO Form 26.

Part 4: Financier's NOC (No Objection Certificate) and Office Endorsement

  1. If the vehicle is under hire-purchase, hypothecation or lease, the financier must issue a NOC for the issuance of a duplicate RC along with their signature, date and address.
  2. If the Financier does not agree to the issuance of a Duplicate RC, they must clearly start their objection along with the reason and also the date of declaration.
  3. You have to enter the names of the Financier and the registering authority along with the Financier and the registered owner.
  4. The Office Endorsement section includes the registering authority's signature, address, reference number and date of issue of RC.

The RTO sends the certificate by registered post to the financier and the registering authority with an acknowledgement receipt.
