You need your Aadhaar card or driver’s license for ABHA card registration. Make sure that your Aadhaar is linked to your current mobile number.
Search for the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) website. Upon opening, you will find an orange box with ‘Create ABHA’. Click on it.
Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and give your consent to the terms and conditions. Next, select whether you want to opt for a face or OTP authentication. Lastly, enter the Captcha.
After you select ‘Next’, you will receive an OTP in your Aadhaar-registered number. Enter that, along with your mobile number, and click on ‘Submit’.
If your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar card, you need not provide any additional information. Enter your email address and click on ‘Verify’. You will receive a verification link in your email.
Once your email is verified, you can create your unique ABHA address. Your ABHA address should have a minimum of 8 characters and 1 dot/underscore. An example would be ‘yourname1234@abdm’. Click on ‘Create ABHA’.
Once you click on ‘Create ABHA’ card, you can view your digitised ABHA card with the unique 14-digit ABHA number. You can download it and print it out from here.
If you want to get an ABHA card offline, follow these steps:
You can visit a local hospital or Ayushman Bharat Community Service Centre near you.

Currently, around 82.18 ABHA numbers are registered, and the numbers keep increasing each day. This shows its immense popularity and usefulness. Let us dive into its benefits:
With the Digital India initiative, you do not have to keep hundreds of prescriptions, bills, and registration certificates safe in your home. You can access them easily through your digital ID seamlessly. It is a safe, convenient, and easy way to access your health history anytime, anywhere.
With the digital doctor facility, you can connect to qualified and certified doctors whenever you need. That means you do not have to wait in long queues for a doctor or travel to get yourself checked. Simply use the ABHA app to match with a doctor, and they can provide you with a digital prescription.
With an ABHA card, your digital health ID is safe and secure. Your information is encrypted, and no one can view it if you do not give consent. Therefore, you can share your records with a doctor only if you want to.
Linking your health insurance plan with your ABHA ID lets you fast-track your cashless claim process. The card allows your hospital to easily get all your policy and health details, so that you do not have to wait in payment queues during emergencies.
If you are someone who prefers Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, or Homoeopathy, they are now easily accessible through the ABHA card. ABHA card registration lets you explore other holistic medicinal practices other than the conventional allopathy.
ABHA connects both public and private hospitals under one ecosystem. This facilitates seamless sharing of prescriptions, lab results, and discharge summaries.
ABHA is a step forward towards a complete universal health coverage (UHC). The card not only helps common people in India but also developers, healthcare providers, businesses, and product managers.
Here are the ways ABHA card registration is helping the country move forward:
Rural areas often face disadvantages when it comes to receiving quality care during an emergency. However, when you opt for ABHA registration online, you get access to virtual consultations and telemedicine.
India is moving forward in its healthcare reforms by introducing the ABHA system. The card digitises your health records and opens the gate to universal healthcare. In future, availing medical services from anywhere around the country will be possible with ABHA.
ABHA enables the government and health authorities to analyse national health data trends. This allows data-backed policymaking, predictive modelling for disease outbreaks, and resource planning in critical sectors.
ABHA card registration is a step toward a smarter, connected healthcare system. By digitising your health records, you gain quick access to medical services and ensure better coordination between doctors and hospitals.
By following the steps in this blog and taking charge of your health with your own Digital Health ID today, you open yourself to experiencing the digital India initiative.
ABHA card registration is an easy and hassle-free process that requires your Aadhaar card or Driver’s license. Your Aadhaar card needs to be linked with your current mobile number.
The Ayushman card and ABHA card are not the same. The Ayushman card gives families free ₹5 lakh health insurance. On the other hand, the ABHA card is a unique 14-digit health ID which can be used to store and share health records.
Every Indian citizen is eligible to register for an ABHA card. However, Non-Residential Indians (NRI) and non-Indians cannot avail themselves the benefits of this scheme.
The ABHA card in itself does not provide any free treatment facilities. However, you can use your ABHA card to access benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana Scheme (AB PM-JAY).
The ABHA card does not contain any balance as it is a digital health ID used to store and share health records.
