How to Apply for a Driving Licence in Pune Online?

Hindustan Times reports that stricter monitoring has cut Pune’s daily driving test slots nearly in half, so avoiding rejection is crucial. Applicants must clear two stages, first a six-month learner’s licence, then a permanent licence.

So, here is how to apply for a driving licence in Pune online via the Parivahan Portal.

Step 1: Visit the official Parivahan portal and under the ‘Online Services’ section, select ‘Driving Licence Related Services’.

Step 2: Choose your State name, i.e. Maharashtra.

Step 3: Choose "Apply for Learner Licence"; you will find all the stages in detail.

Step 4: Go through the steps, arrange the necessary documents and click on “Apply for Continue”.

Step 5:  After applicant category selection, click on “Applicant does not hold any Driving/ Learning Licence in India” and Submit.

Step 6: For OTP verification, type in your mobile number and the Captcha code.

Step 7: Choose the vehicle class and fill out the form. Or you can use Aadhaar e-KYC to auto-fill, upload scanned documents, passport photos and submit.

Step 8: Pay the application fee of ₹151 for each class of vehicle and ₹50 for the test online using your preferred method, i.e. cards, UPI, or net banking.

Step 9: Book a slot for the online driving licence in Pune preliminary test (CBT / online multiple choice). You can choose to have an in-person, offline test option at a local RTO in Pune as well.

Step 10: Visit the RTO along with your identity proof and payment receipt on the designated date, and take the online or offline test of 30 minutes duration.

Step 11: After passing, you will be able to download the learning licence for Pune.

Step 12: Since the learner’s licence remains valid only for 6 months, you have to apply for a permanent driving licence within that period.

Step 13: To apply, visit the Parivahan portal again, but this time choose “Apply for Driving Licence”.

Step 14: Pay the driving licence fee of ₹716 and book a slot. If you are applying for an international driving licence in Pune, you need to pay ₹1000.

Step 15: Choose a date when you will be available for the driving competence test and arrive at the RTO.

Step 16: After clearing the test, within 2 to 4 weeks, you will get the permanent driving licence at your registered address.

1. Form 2 for the application of a learner's licence (available on Parivahan).

2. Form 4 for the application for a driving licence.

3. Aadhaar, Passport, PAN card or Voter ID as part of your identity proof.

4. Birth certificate, school leaving certificate, and a Passport as part of your age proof.

5. Aadhaar, electricity bill, passport, voter ID, rental agreement, etc, as address proof.

6. Passport-size photographs (usually 2–3, measuring 35x45mm).

7. Form 1A is considered a medical certificate for certain applicants (older age or commercial endorsements).

What is the Process of The Driving Licence Test in Pune?

Stage 1: In stage 1 of the learner's permit, you need to clear a 30-minute-long CBT test that is based on road rules, basic road safety and traffic signs. As soon as you get the permit, you become eligible to apply for a permanent driving licence.

Stage 2: Within 6 months of getting your LLR, you can start your permanent driving licence application. For that, you have to take a driving competence test at a local RTO. After passing this test, you will receive your DL within a few weeks.

How to Renew a Driving Licence in Pune?

Once you receive a permanent driving licence in Pune, it stays valid for 20 years or until the owner is 40 years of age. However, a commercial vehicle licence remains valid only for 5 years. It is important to renew your driving licence in Pune before its validity expires. You can renew your licence following these steps:

Step 1: Go to the Parivahan Website and under the Driving Licence related Services, choose your state’s name.

Step 2: Click on “Apply for DL Renewal” and get details of the upcoming steps.

Step 3: “Continue” and fill in your existing DL number, date of birth and the CAPTCHA code and click on “Proceed”.

Step 4: Pay the driving licence renewal fee, and that's it. Your driving licence will be renewed.

Pro Tip: Remember to renew your licence within one year of its expiry to avoid giving a driving test. If you miss out and try to renew your driving licence after its expiry, you will have to start again from the first stage.

Common Mistakes to Avoid while Applying for a Driving Licence in Pune

1. Missing the PDF available on the Parivahan website before appearing for the CBT.

2. Use Aadhaar e-KYC on Sarathi to make the application process faster.

3. Avoid cheating on the driving or the CBT test; you might end up with a rejection.

4. Carry original documents ready for verification for both online and offline applications.

5. Upload all the documents in the correct format, and fill in the forms mindfully.

6. Confirm whether the payment has been completed before leaving the payment portal.

7. Book your test slots early, since the most popular RTOs in Pune have limited slots and you may get delayed.

Final words

Following the application methods accurately will ensure that you will get your driving licence in Pune on time without any delays. However, ensure that you are prepared for both the CBT and the driving competence test before applying, since your eligibility for a driving licence solely depends on your performance.
