We have created this quick and easy guide to help you understand the passport renewal process, avoid common mistakes, and renew your passport with confidence so your travel plans stay on track.
Before we dive into the process of passport renewal, you must know when you can renew your passport. In India, you can renew your passport if you meet the following criteria:
1. You must be an Indian citizen holding a valid or expired passport
2. Your passport is about to expire
3. You want to update your details in your passport
4. Your passport pages are exhausted
5. Your passport is damaged
If you relate to any of these situations, then you can take part in the passport renewal process.
The online passport renewal process is a straightforward process. You can renew your passport via the Passport Seva’s official website. Follow these steps below:
Your first step is to register yourself on the official Passport Seva Kendra portal. Enter your name, email ID, login ID and password. Then, click on Sign Up.
Once you register yourself in the portal, you have to log in to your account. Enter your recently created login ID and password to enter your profile.
After you log in, a dashboard will appear in front of you. Navigate to the 'Services' section and click on 'Re-issue of Passport'.
For passport renewal online, you need to select your RPO based on your current residence location. If you want to change your RPO from the previous one, you need to create a new login ID at the Passport Seva Kendra website.
After you have selected your RPO, you have to accurately fill out the passport renewal form. If you need to update any information, you can do so now.
After you have filled out the form, submit it. You will receive a unique Application Reference Number (ARN). Then, proceed to the payment section of the passport renewal procedure. Pay the fees and schedule an appointment at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra.
After submitting the online form for the passport renewal process, you have to visit the office with your original documents.
