What is the Consumables Plus Rider?

Healthcare expenses go beyond hospital room charges and treatment costs. In fact, seemingly small expenses for syringes, gloves, masks, or other consumables can quickly add up to your overall out-of-pocket expenses.

What Are Non-Medical Consumables in Health Insurance?

Non-medical consumables in health insurance refer to essential items that are used during hospitalisation but often excluded from standard policies.

These may include gloves, masks, syringes, PPE kits, cotton, bandages, and sanitisation supplies. Although the price of these items seems cheap individually, their cumulative cost can increase your final hospital bill.

This is why consumables plus a health insurance rider help cover these expenses to ensure you remain completely secured financially.

    What Does Consumables Plus Cover?

The consumables plus rider of Bajaj General Insurance generally covers the following items.
    1
Masks and gloves used during treatment procedures.
    2
Syringes, needles, and cannulas are required for medical care.
    3
Cotton, bandages, wound dressings, and surgical blades.
    4
Catheters, tubing, and oxygen masks are used during hospital stays.
    5
Sanitisers, disinfectants, wipes, and other hygiene essentials.
    6
Nebulisers, oxygen cylinders, and select treatment-related consumables.
    7
Alcohol swabs, PPE kits, and Glucometer strips are also covered.

    Waiting Period for Activation

Policyholders with pre-existing diseases have to serve a waiting period of 12 to 36 months to get the consumable plus rider benefit.

    Why Choose Consumables Plus?

Choosing coverage for non-medical consumables in health insurance is essential due to the following reasons.

    • Reduces Coverage Gap

Since standard health insurance plans may not cover non-medical consumables such as gloves, masks, syringes, and dressings, the consumables plus riders help bridge this gap. Therefore, these essential treatment-related costs do not strain your finances.

    • Cashless Treatment Facility

Eligible non-medical consumables can also be availed through the cashless facility at network hospitals. In fact, with Bajaj General Insurance, you can access these facilities across 18,000+ network hospitals nationwide, reducing your out-of-pocket costs.

    • Ensures High-Quality Treatments

Sometimes, for high hospital bills with consumable charges, people can compromise on the quality of treatment. However, if you have health insurance with consumable cover, you can easily afford the best quality treatments without upfront payment.

    • Supports Smooth Claims

Eligible consumable expenses are processed as part of an admissible hospitalisation claim under the base policy. Therefore, as a result, policyholders generally get a higher payout during the claim settlements.

    • Protection from Inflation

The rising medical inflation is resulting in high costs of medical supplies. This is why choosing this rider is essential. Especially during frequent hospitalisation, it will protect your finances from the sudden spikes in healthcare commodities.

    • Greater Peace of Mind

Medical emergencies are stressful enough even without unexpected expenses. This is why having the consumables plus rider will give you greater reassurance with enhanced financial security.
